Jilemnice - 5km, lies in a hilly land of the western foothills of the Giant Mountains (the town square lies in the altitude of 464m) and has approximately 6 thousand of inhabitants nowadays. For years it has been sought out as an advantageous starting point for trips to the west of the Giant Mountains the natural centre of which it has become over the years of historic development. Bozkovské dolomite caves - 25km, Bozkovské dolomite caves lie on the northern slope of Bozkov village at the foothills of the Giant Mountains. The entrance to the underground was uncovered in the forties of the last century but only in 1957 the underground system of fissure corridors, partially flooded with water. Bozkovské dolomite caves form a labyrinth of underground corridors and caverns located not very deep under the ground surface. Silica ledges protruding from the walls and ceilings are the characteristic and in the accessible caves unique decoration. Some caverns are also filled with stalactites of classic shapes as well as interesting eccentric stalactites. Underground lakes with pellucid jade green water are an attractive diversification of the visiting path. Bozkovské dolomite caves are the only accessible caves in the north of Bohemia. ZOO and Safari Dvůr Králové nad Labem - 30km, the ZOO in Dvůr Králové nad Labem was founded in the area of the original private park with a beautiful building – a copy of renaissance castle (the original lies near Vienna), that the factory owner Richard Neumann had built as a summer-house at the beginning of the twentieth century (1905). After nationalization
of textile industry in 1945 national history and geography museum was founded in the “villa”, cages with European animals – the base of the future ZOO – gradually became a part of the museum. Seventies were another milestone; the ZOO then organized 8 expeditions to different countries of Africa and brought back approximately 2 thousand animals. Mr. Josef Vágner, PhD., (ZOO director in 1965 – 1983), pressed the African fauna specialization of the ZOO. The imported animals (primarily subungulates, but also beasts of prey, monkeys and reptiles) gave the base to unique breeding that makes the ZOO a unique gene-bank of numerous African subungulates on the Continent. Krkonoše - (the Giant Mountains) - 25km are situated in the northeast Bohemia and the state boundary with Poland divides the whole mountain range to two parts different in shape as well as surface area. The Czech Giant Mountains with the surface area of 454 km* represent approximately 2/3 of the whole surface area and the slopes are wider, more dissected and gentle compared to the northern Polish part (surface area of 177 km*) that with its steep and short slopes from the Silesian ridge over the Giant Mountains foothills (Przedgórze Karkonoskie) forms a part of the vast Jelenohorský basin (Kotlina Jeleniogorska).
